On 28 June 2024, the Board of Investment in Thailand (“BOI”) updated its promoted activities list to include data hosting, which is listed as “Activity 8.2.4 Data Hosting Services.” The increase of this new activity is to match the rising demand for this type of activities, to support investments by major cloud service providers focused on advanced computing equipment and to ensure the full utilization of Data Centers in Thailand and complement the investment incentives already offered to support the development of the digital industry.

Companies that establish data centers meeting stringent criteria can receive an eight-year corporate income tax exemption. This also comes with additional perks such as import duty exemptions on essential machinery, the right for foreigners to own land, and streamlined processes for obtaining work permits and visas for foreign experts.
建立符合嚴格標準的資料中心的公司可以獲得八年的企業所得稅豁免。這也帶來了額外的好處，例如基本機械的進口關稅豁免、外國人擁有土地的權利以及簡化外國專家獲得工作許可證和簽證的流程。
To be eligible for these BOI incentives, projects must:
為了有資格獲得這些 BOI 激勵措施，項目必須：
Ø Provide services for leasing host servers of data storage (data hosting);

Ø Have at least two data centers located in Thailand that meet or exceed the ISO/IEC 27001 data center standards;

Ø Have an investment amount (excluding cost of land and working capital) of at least THB 5 billion.

Apart from the above specific criteria, projects also need to comply with general BOI criteria, such as debt-to-equity ratio no higher than 3:1, submission of a feasibility study report, and use of new machinery, among others.
除上述特定標準外，項目還需符合BOI的一般標準，例如債務股本比不高於3:1、提交可行性研究報告、使用新機械等。

In addition, the BOI has approved the introduction of another new investment promotion category covering service centers for the repair, repack, and reuse of used electric vehicle (EV) batteries and energy storage systems, which further complements the BOI's comprehensive EV supply chain policy and incentives. BOI also approved new promotion package of Quarantine Facilities for exporting animals to help to improve quarantine and certification services for international trade of livestock.

Ø Data Center project by True Internet Data Center Co., Ltd., with an investment of THB 3.345 billion, which is located in Samut Prakan Province. This is the company's fifth project to meet the increasing customer demand and will expand investment in the existing True IDC East Bangna Campus.

Ø The Data Center project by a leading company from the United States, a top global Data Center provider, involves an investment of THB 7.185 billion and will support IT load of 20 megawatts. It is located in Samut Prakan Province.

Additionally, on June 14, 2024, the Commission on the National Competitiveness Enhancement for Targeted Industries Policies (the Competitiveness Enhancement Fund Board), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mr. Pichai Chunhavajira, approved measures to promote high-potential startups from Pre-Series A to Series A operating in targeted industries. The measures include financial support ranging from THB 20 million to THB 50 million in the form of matching funds with venture of capital funds registered with the National Innovation Agency (NIA). This initiative aims to accelerate the growth of promising Thai startups to unicorn status more swiftly, thereby enhancing the country's competitiveness and advancing towards a technology and innovation-driven economy.
